Results of “The Nine Chapters on the
Mathematical Art” Contest 2012
“The Nine
Chapters on the Mathematical Art” Contest (NCC) is a math
contest designed for students of Grades 3 to 10 as a warm-up
for the Canadian Math Contests. The contest is named after the
Chinese ancient classic book "The Nine Chapters on the
Mathematical Art". NCC 2012 is organized by Grand River
Chinese School, co-organized by St. Louis Continuing Education
Centers, and Confucius Institute at the University of
Waterloo. NCC began in
2008, and since then, attendees of NCC have achieved a lot of
distinctive honours in Canadian Math Contests, and have been
listed 66 times on honour rolls, including 20 times of perfect
scores, gold medals and/or golden standard. New winners since

Mathematics Competition Honour Roll Congratulations to all of them! The

response this year. A total of 90 students wrote the contest,
some of them traveled to Waterloo from other cities. The

for months to design the contest. They

Chapters on the Mathematical Art Contest (NCC12)

Co-organized and sponsored by
Confucius Institute at the University of Waterloo, and St.
Louis Continuing Education Centres, Grand River Chinese School
will host "The 5th Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art
Contest (NCC12)" on Nov. 17, 2012, 2:45pm to 4:00pm.
Students
achieving outstanding results in the contest will receive
awards provided by the Confucius Institute.
NCC12 is a math
contest designed for students of Grades 3 to 10 as a warm-up
for the Canadian Math Contests (Thales Contest for Grade 3,
Byron-Germain Contest for Grade 4, Fibonacci Contest for Grade
5, Pythagoras Contest for Grade 6, Gauss Contest for Grades 7
and 8, Pascal Contest for Grade 9, and Cayley Contest for
Grade 10). The contest is named after the Chinese ancient
classic book "The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical

Since the first NCC in 2008,
there have been 66 times that our
NCC attendees were listed on the honour rolls of Canadian Math
Contests, including 20 times
achieving perfect scores, gold medals and/or golden standard.
40 of the 66 were added last year.
Participating in NCC12 is free. Local
students who were born in 1997 to 2004 are eligible. Students
from other areas may also attend if you are able to travel to
Waterloo. To sign up for this contest, you need to download
the registration form, and email the filled form
as attachment to office@grandriverchineseschool.com
by Oct. 31. Other details will be notified
to eligible students by email.
