“The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art”
Contest (NCC) is a math contest designed for students of
Grades 3 to 10 as a warm-up for the Canadian Math Contests.
The contest is named after the Chinese ancient classic book
"The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art". NCC 2011 is
organized by Grand River Chinese School, co-organized by St.
Louis Continuing Education Centers, and Confucius Institute at
the University of Waterloo.
NCC began in 2008, and since then, attendees of NCC have
achieved a lot of distinctive honours in Canadian Math
Contests and were listed 26 times on honour rolls, including 6
times of perfect scores. New winners in year 2011 include:

The Nine
Chapters on the Mathematical Art Contest received record
response this year. A total of 83 students wrote the contest,
some of them came from other cities. The NCC Problems
Committee members and Problem Editors worked hard for months

Institute at the University of Waterloo, Grand River Chinese
School will host "The 4th Nine Chapters on the Mathematical
Art Contest (NCC11)" on Nov. 19, 2011, 2:45pm to 4:00pm. NCC11
is a math contest designed for students of Grades 3 to 10 as a
warm-up for the Canadian Math Contests (Thales Contest for
Grade 3, Byron-Germain Contest for Grade 4, Fibonacci Contest
for Grade 5, Pythagoras Contest for Grade 6, Gauss Contest for
Grades 7 and 8, Pascal Contest for Grade 9, and Cayley Contest
for Grade 10). The contest is named after the Chinese ancient
classic book "The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical
Art" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine_Chapters_on_the_Mathematical_Art). Students
achieving outstanding results in the contest will receive
awards provided by the Confucius Institute.
Since the first NCC in 2008, 25
students who wrote the NCCs achieved outstanding scores and
were listed on the honour rolls of Canadian Math Contests,
including 6 persons who achieved perfect scores. The
former and current Chairs of NCC Problems Committee have been
accepted by MIT as Ph.D. candidates in math related
fields.
Participating in NCC11 is free.
Local students who were born in 1996 to 2003 are eligible. To
sign up for this contest, you need to downlaod the registration form, and email the filled form
as attachment to gr_chineseschool@yahoo.ca
by Oct. 31th. Other details will
be notified to eligible students by email.
