“Chinese as a Foreign Language”

Class 1

Obtained ECE certificate from Conestoga College, was with YMCA Ontario Early Year Centres, and now is working with Butterfly Learning Center. When in China, she had been award winners in speech competition, performing arts, and hosted children's programs with school and city radio and TV stations. She has been a teacher of Grand River Chinese School since April 2011.

 “Chinese as a Foreign Language”

Class 2

Graduated from a university in China in English language, and ECE from Conestoga College, worked in early child education after graduation, currently with Butterfly Learning Centre. She has been a teacher of Grand River Chinese School since 2011. 
Secondary Credit Chinese Language Beginner's Class Graduated from UWO with Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Education. Worked as a computer engineer before she started her teaching career. Taught Mandarin to English speakers before she returned to teacher college in Western Ontario to get fully certified and licensed as Intermediate/Senior OCT teacher. Also works with Waterloo Region District School Board from Mon to Fri. She has been teacher of Grand River Chinese School since 2009.
The 3-year-old class 1 Obtained diploma in Early Child Education in China, also with certificate of Chinese Putonghua second level class A, currently in ECE program at Conestoga College.  Since 2002, she has been working in early child education.

The 3-year-old class 2

Obtained ECE certificate from Conestoga College, with ECE Bursary due to excellence in study. When in China, she graduated with bachelor’s degree in law, and also holds class 7 certificate in Chinese pipa music. She had been a journalist with Anhui TV in China for 3 years, and a bilingual language teacher for 2 years in China. She has been a teacher with Grand River Chinese School since 2013.

JK class 1

Graduated from a normal teacher's college in China majoring in English Education, and obtained an Early Childhood Education diploma from Seneca College. Worked as a program facilitator in Ontario Early Years Centre for years. Have proven experience in planning and implementing developmental programs for infant to school age children. She has bee a teacher with Grand River Chinese School since November 2007.

JK class 2

In China she graduated from an Education Institute in elementary education, and from a Normal University in Chinese language and literature. She had been a teacher over 10 years in China, in primary school, special education, and in early child pre-school. A member of Writer's Society of Xiamen City. She has been a teacher with Grand River Chinese School since 2012.
JK class 3

After graduation in China from a collage, she worked in Singapore for 3 years in early child education, teaching Chinese language to students of 3 to 6 years. She is currently in the 3rd year of ECE program at Conestoga College.

SK class 1

She graduated from a Normal University in China with her major in Pre-School and Early Year Education, and performed research and practice in teaching methods for years in her positions with Kindergartens. In teaching, she is always in a role of the best friend of the students, encourages the children to learn through trying different things. She won awards many times in her previous jobs. She has been a teacher of Grand River Chinese School since January 2009.

SK class 2

Edified by her artistic family, she has a broad knowledge and a strong passion for Chinese traditional culture.
Graduated from an international language university with major in French language and culture, she was a French language teacher in Shandong University of Technology & Science. With fluent Chinese, English and French, well experienced in arts formative education for children. She has been a teacher with Grand River Chinese School since 2009.
SK class 3

Graduated from a key university in China, majoring in English Education, certified Chinese Putonghua (a.k.a. Mandarin) teacher. After working for a few years, she studied in the United States and received her Master's degree in education. She is good at using various teaching methods including multimedia tools. She has many years of experience in teaching young children. She has been a teacher of Grand River Chinese School since 2009.     

 Grade 1 class 1

Graduated from Capital Normal University of China majoring in English Language and Literature, and taught Chinese at the Foreign Training Center at Capital Normal University, also worked as Chief Editor of Fashion Magazine of China. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School and has been teaching with Grand River Chinese School since 2007.

 Grade 1 class 2

Graduated from a normal university in China majoring in Chinese Language Education, and taught for years in a primary school in China. Also worked as a editor with a Chinese newspaper. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School and has been teaching with Grand River Chinese School since 2007.

Grade 1 class 3

Graduated from Shanghai Normal University and achieved a BA degree for English education. She worked as a high school teacher in a top school for over ten years and has accumulated much experience in teaching and classroom management. She was also an executive member for the international department of the school, and has organized many culture exchange activities between students in Shanghai and overseas. She values cross-cultural education and is dedicated to it. She began to teach with Grand River Chinese in Nov. 2008.

Grade 2 class 1
Completed her degree from Nanjing Normal University . She has taught Chinese, art, and science for nearly 10 years in primary schools in Jiangsu province in China. She was promoted to a Senior Teacher position from the provincial board of education and has been presented with multiple municipal level awards for teaching excellence. Kun Zhang is a distinguished educator and is greatly passionate about bringing the Chinese language and culture to students of all ages. She has been teaching with Grand River Chinese School since 2014.

Grade 2 class 2

Graduated from a Normal University in China, and obtained Master degree in Arts. More than 8 years of teaching experience both in middle school and university in China. She loves teaching Chinese language and arts. Good at communicating with all kinds of students, and teaching based on their different backgrounds. She has been teaching with Grand River Chinese School since 2012.

Grade 2 class 3

Obtained B.A. in Pre-school Education from Liaoning Normal University, taught for 9 years with Kindergarten of Ganjinzi District Bureau of Education in Dalian City, worked as a kindergarten teacher of all grades as an English teacher and general teacher, group lead of teaching and research, and the Principal in charge of education. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School and has been teaching with Grand River Chinese School since 2007.
Grade 2 class 4 Obtained M.A. and B.A. in Chinese language and literature, and certificate of Chinese Putonghua of second level class A, high school teacher certificate in China. She has been teaching Chinese language in China to foreign employees in an international company. 

 Grade 3 class 1

Graduated from a normal institute in China majoring in Chinese Language and Literature, with 16 years of experience in teaching Chinese Language with primary and secondary schools in China. Participated in the Chinese Language Education Reform Project in China, developed new concepts and methodology in Chinese language education emphasizing self-learning capability and skill training, with multiple research papers wining awards. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School and has been teaching here since 2007.

Grade 3 class 2

M.Ed. from a Normal University in China, certificate of Chinese Putonghua of top level class B, and was a high school teacher and group head for years. Was honored with excellent teacher at municipal and school levels. She has been teaching with Grand River Chinese School since 2013. 

 Grade 4 class 1

She graduated from a Normal University in China, and obtained her Master's Degrees of Education in China and Canada. She accumulated extensive experiences through her many years of work as an English language teacher in a senior high school and an administrative officer in a university in China. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School and has been teaching with Grand River Chinese School since 2007.

Grade 4 class 2

Obtained Bachelor and Master's degrees in China and Master's degree in Canada, taught Chinese language in Singapore, and work in student guidance in KW.

Grade 5 class 1

Obtained B.A. in Chinese Language, Literature and Education from a University in China. She had been teaching Chinese language with high schools in China, private schools and universities in France for a total of 8 years before joining Grand River Chinese School in 2009. 

Grade 5 class 2

After completing B.A., worked with a high school as a teacher and Educational Research Group leader for 10 years. Also received training at Beijing Normal University as one of the key teachers. Certified Chinese Putonghua (a.k.a. Mandarin) teacher.  She has been teaching with Grand River Chinese School since 2009.

Grade 6 class 1

Obtained B.A.in Chinese language from a teacher's university in China, she has 15 years experience of teaching Chinese language in China. In Canada, she has been a Chinese language teacher in multiple international language schools including being appointed by Peel District School Board. She has been a teacher with Grand River Chinese School since 2011.
Grade 6 class 2
She graduated from Shanghai Normal University, majoring in English Education. She had worked with a key high school in Shanghai as an English teacher and class supervisor for several years, and was a winner of "honored teacher" for several times. She was also a group head in teaching. She supervised students to visit the partner school in Australia for culture exchange and worked there assisting their Chinese teacher for 3 months. She taught at a Chinese school in Edmonton, Alberta. She has been a teacher with Grand River Chinese School since 2009.

Grade 7 class 1

Graduated from Northwest China Normal University, taught in a secondary vocational school for 8 years in China, taught Chinese for years with Ray Chinese School in Chicago and Standard Chinese School in Toronto, and is one of the founding teachers of Standard Chinese School. Accumulated rich experiences in teaching Chinese overseas and establishing Chinese school overseas, also attended conferences on overseas Chinese language teaching. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School and has been teaching with Grand River Chinese School since 2007.
Grade 7 class 2 Graduated from a famous university in China with B.A. in English Language and Literature, taught Chinese Language to foreign students at Beijing Language University for 3 years, and afterwards worked as a journalist in China wining multiple awards. Also taught Chinese Language at Tianhong Chinese Language School in Toronto for years. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School and has been teaching with Grand River Chinese School since 2007.

Grade 8

Graduated from a normal university in China and has been a teacher over 30 years, including primary school, high school and university in Chinese language, law and English, with associated professor title in China, and certificate of Chinese Putonghua Class A, Chinese-English translation certificate from University of Toronto. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School and has been teaching with Grand River Chinese School since 2007.

Ontario certified teacher (OCT), she has been working as a supply teacher with Waterloo Catholic District School Board since 2007.  She also works as a Mandarin teacher with Waterloo Public District School Board International Language Program since 2007. She won a Teacher Award for excellent teaching in Chinese essay writing, her students won multiple awards in an essay writing contest. She is also a handcraft interest class instructor.

B.A. in English Education, had years of English language teaching experience in China; Bachelor of Education from Queen's University, Ontario Certified Teacher, worked as a supply teacher at a private school in Kingston, Ontario and public elementary schools in Prince George, BC; also taught at the Chinese schools in Kingston and Prince George. She has been a teacher of Grand River Chinese School since 2009.
Olympic Math

He has written numerous math contests over the years, including attaining Certificate of Distinction on the Fermat, School Champion on the Hypatia (scoring 34/40), School Champion on the CSMC (scoring 49/60), and School Runner-up on the Euclid and COMC contests. He participated on the Waterloo ARML team in 2016 with a strong division A performance, placing second on the team in the individual round. He was also School Champion in the CCC contest in 2015.  He led the Math and Computer Science clubs at Cameron Heights, as well as the Reach for the Top Trivia team. Currently he is a Computer Science student at the University of Waterloo.
Olympic Math

His achievements in CEMC contests include - School Champion Award for Gauss (2015), First in the Region for the Junior Canadian Computing Competition (2016), School Champion Award for Cayley (2018), School Champion Award for Galios (2018). He has won a Gold medal for the Canadian Kangeroo Contest every year from 2014 to 2017. Currently he is a student at the University of Waterloo. Since 2018, he teaches Olympic Math with GRCS.
Olympic Math

He has achieved various accolades in various Canada and US math/computer contests, such as honor rolls and school champions in multiple Canadian math contests such as Gauss, CIMC, CSMC, Fermat, Hypatia, and Euclid. Additionally, in Canadian Open Math Contest (COMC) scored first amongst grade 10s and third place amongst all competitors in the southwestern region of Ontario. In American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) he got qualified for the American Invitational Math Examination (AIME) 3 times since grade 8. In the team competitions, he scored perfect on the individual section of the Canadian Team Mathematics Contest (CTMC) and has participated in the Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament (HMMT) twice in 2021 and 2022. He also entered honor roll in CCC contest and achieved the silver level in USCCO.He has been the chair of school math club since grade 10, where he taught introductory and intermediate math contest concepts and gained good feed back from students and teachers. 
Olympic Math teacher 4 She won awards in 5 consecotive years in the Nine Chapters of Mathematical Art Contest. She also got 3rd place in the National Engineering Month math contest. She’s doing the IB programme, and got a 98 in pre-IB math last year.


Math Enrichment class
With a bachelor's degree in Math Education from Soochow University and a Master's degree in management from Nanjing University, she also holds an MBA from the University of Alberta, where she taught undergrad business students. Since moving to KW region, she has has been doping math teaching and tutoring, specializing in elementary-school math with Eastern Asian pedagogy.
Programming Class
Achieved a score in the top 10% for both the junior and senior divisions of the Canadian Computing Competition. Winner of the Github and Ethereum prizes at JAMhacks VI (2022), second place overall in the 2022 Highlander Engineering Challenge hackathon. First Lego League regional qualifier in 2017 and 2018. National second place in the Mathematica Thales math contest 2014. Math Kangaroo 2017 national gold medalist. Teaching assistant in 2021-2022 programing class of GRCS .
Chinese Folk Dance Helen Hong is a dancer/choreographer. She started her dance training at age 4. Trained in dance by Beijing Dance Academy, China’s premier national dance institute, and served as an instructor / choreographer at the National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts where she won several awards at national dance competitions. She had distinguished professional dance career in China. To preserve and promote Chinese performing arts and culture in a newly emerging and changing Canadian culture, Helen founded a professional studio of Chinese dance that offers Chinese folk and classical dance classes in London. Since 2008, she has also offered  Chinese folk dance training at Grand River Chinese School in KW.
Chess

His achievements in chess include: Canadian Universities Chess Champions 2011, Placed 3rd in Canada for Under-16 National Competition 2009, first place in under 14 Chess Competition in Ontario 2007, awarded the title of National Master in Canada.  Currently he is studying at UW in Mathematics and Finance. He taught chess at Grand River Chinese School in 2008, and has been teaching again since Jan. 2012.

Supervisor

Hang Liu, B.A., M.Ed., completed formal teacher’s training from a Normal University in China, and obtained Master of Education in Canada. She taught for years in Shandong University and Beijing Jianshe University, also taught for 11 years in Ottawa Xinhua Chinese School, including teaching Chinese to a class of Anglophone / Francophone Canadians. She was one of the 7 founders of Beijing Jianshe University, established the Kanata campus of Ottawa Xinhua Chinese School and was the Executive Principal of the campus. She had been working for years in schools in Ottawa and Waterloo regions as Multicultural Liaison Officer / Settlement Worker in Schools, and had served thousands of students, parents and teachers.
