Chapters on the Mathematical Art Contest
NCC is a contest, named after the
Chinese ancient classic book "The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical
Art" (wiki). Every
November, since 2008, the Grand River Chinese School (GRCS)
has offered NCC as an annual traditional 1 hour and 15 minute
math contest for students of Grade 3 through Grade 10.
NCC is a "warm-up" contest of major Canadian math contests of
same grade levels, such as Thales, Byron-Germain,
Fibonacci, Pythagoras, Gauss, Pascal and Cayley
Currently, NCC is organized by
GRCS, co-organized and sponsored by Confucius Institute at the
University of Waterloo, and sponsored by Canadian mathematical
During 2008 to 2012, NCC has
tested 327 participants, many of them further wrote various
Canadian math contests, 111 of whom have been listed on honour
rolls of those contests and 31 times they obtained golden
standards, gold medals, or perfect scores.
In NCC 2013, 97 students wrote the contest.
