Overview of the Teachers

 “Chinese as a Foreign Language”

Class 1

Obtained master’s degrees both in China and in Canada. Taught in a University in China. Taught Chinese language for years in Canada to children, teens, and university students as well as adults. She has been teaching with Grand River Chinese School since 2007 and is one of the founders.

Class 2

Obtained B.A. degree in English Language and Literature in China and MBA degree in Canada. Worked in the editorial office of a well-known magazine in China for years. Had experience in teaching English to Chinese students in language training classes and English to foreign students in China. Good at communicating with children and stimulating their imagination and creation.

Class 3

Graduated from the Department of English Language and Literature at a well-known university in China and obtained Master of Arts in Canada, with many years of teaching experience both in China and overseas. Good at communicating with students, making sure that students can be instructed accordingly to optimize their learning. She has been teaching with Grand River Chinese School since 2007 and is one of the founders.
Secondary Credit Chinese Language Beginner's ClassGraduated from UWO with Bachalor of Engineering, Bachalor of Science, and Bachalor of Education. Worked as a computer engineer before she started her teaching career. Taught Mandarin to English speakers before she returned to teacher college in Western Ontario to get fully certified and licensed as Intermediate/Senior OCT teacher. Also works with Waterloo Region District School Board from Mon to Fri. Love Chinese language and Chinese culture.
 The 3-year-old class (teacher 1)

Graduated with major of early child education, had more than 8 years of experience in early child education including class teacher and team lead of educational group, received awards of excellent teacher many times in China.

The 3-year-old class (teacher 2)

Graduated from a key university in China, majoring in English Education, certified Chinese Putonghua (a.k.a. Mandarin) teacher. After working for a few years, she studied in the United States and received her Master's degree in education. She is good at using various teaching methods including multi-media tools. She has many years of experience in teaching young children. 

 The 3-year-old class (teacher 3)

Obtained B.A. in Pre-school Education from Liaoning Normal University, taught for 9 years with Kindergarten of Ganjinzi District Bureau of Education in Dalian City, served as a kindergarten teacher of all grades as an English teacher and general teacher, group lead of teaching and research, and the Principal in charge of education. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School.

JK class 1

Graduated from a normal teacher's college in China majoring in English Education, and obtained an Early Childhood Education diploma from Seneca College. Worked as a program facilitator in Ontario Early Years Centre for years. Have proven experience in planning and implementing developmental programs for infant to school age children.

JK class 2

After graduation from university, she worked for 3 years with a bilingual early year education centre in China, and also received training with Education School of Qingdao University; in Canada she obtained her ECA certificate and now is studying for her ECE certificate. She has also been working with a few day cares and child education centres in North York and KW as a teacher since 2008. 

SK class 1 

Graduated from Capital Normal University of China majoring in English Language and Literature, and taught Chinese at the Foreign Training Center at Capital Normal University, also worked as Chief Editor of Fashion Magazine of China. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School.

SK class 2

She graduated from a Normal University in China with her major in Pre-School and Early Year Education, and performed research and practice in teaching methods for years in her positions with Kindergartens. In teaching, she is always in a role of the best friend of the students, encourages the children to learn through trying different things. She won awards many times in her previous jobs. 

 Grade 1 class 1

Graduated from a normal institute in China majoring in Chinese Language and Literature, with 16 years of experience in teaching Chinese Language with primary and secondary schools in China. Participated in the Chinese Language Education Reform Project in China, developed new concepts and methodology in Chinese language education emphasizing self-learning capability and skill training, with multiple research papers wining awards.  She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School.

 Grade 1 class 2

Graduated from a famous university in China with B.A. in English Language and Literature, taught Chinese Language to foreign students at Beijing Language University for 3 years, and afterwards worked as a journalist in China wining multiple awards. Also taught Chinese Language at Tianhong Chinese Language School in Toronto for years and developed rich experiences in overseas Chinese language education.  She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School.

Grade 1 class 3

 

She graduated from Chinese language departments of The Second College of Teachers in Wuhan and Hubei University, taught Chinese language for 20 years in primary schools in China, was awarded the title of Senior Teacher from Chinese education authorities, and was a multiple time winner of municipal level awards of excellence.

  Grade 2 class 1

B.A. in English Education, had years of English teaching experience in China; Bachelor of Education from Queen's University, Ontario Certified Teacher, worked as a supply teacher at a private school in Kingston, Ontario and public elementary schools in Prince George, BC; also taught at the Chinese schools in Kingston and Prince George. 

Grade 2 class 2

 

Graduated from a normal university in China majoring in Chinese Language Education, and taught for years in a primary school in China. Also worked as a editor with a Chinese newspaper. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School.

 Grade 3 class 1

Excellent education background, Ph.D. in business administration. More than 19 years of teaching experience both in China and abroad. Good at communicating with all kinds of students, and teaching based on their different background. Experienced in teaching Chinese as a second language. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School.

Grade 3 class 2

 

Graduated from English Language and Literature program of Huazhong Normal University, and worked as a college teacher for over 10 years. Meanwhile, she worked part-time as language training in Municipal Community Center for many years. She has excellent communication ability with friendliness and goodwill. Her principle of teaching is to combine Chinese traditional culture background with everyday learning.

 Grade 4 class 1

She graduated from a Normal University in China, and obtained her Master's Degrees of Education in China and Canada. She accumulated extensive experiences through her many years of work as an English language teacher in a senior high school and an administrative officer in a university in China. Her systematical and advanced knowledge in education developed her philosophy in teaching children through inspiring their curiosity. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School.

Grade 4 class 2

 

B.A. in Chinese, B.A. in Performing Arts of Traditional Chinese Music, and M.Ed. She was a university teacher for many years in China to teach "University Chinese" and "Chinese Literature". She also worked as an Editor with "Inner Mongolia High School Chinese Education" magazine. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School.

Grade 5 Class 1

Graduated from Shanghai University, and had been a Chinese teacher for 11 years in the Training Division of Shanghai Foreign Services. Also was in charge of HSK test preparation training with the Affiliated High School of Shanghai Foreign Language Institute. Developed rich experience in training Chinese for students with non-Chinese background. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School.

Grade 5 Class 2

Obtained B.A. in Chinese Language, Literature and Education from Soochow University in China. She also completed the training program of Enhanced Language for teachers in Durham region.  She had a wealth of experience in teaching Chinese to students in China, France and Canada. Her in-depth knowledge of Chinese and proven methods of child education enable students to learn Chinese linguistics and culture in an easy and enjoying fashion.

Grade 6

 

She graduated from Shanghai Normal University, majoring in English Education. She had worked with a "key high school" in Shanghai as an English teacher and class supervisor for several years, and was a winner of "honored teacher" for several times. She was also in charge of guiding other teachers to prepare lessons. She supervised students to visit the partner school in Australia for culture exchange and worked there assisting their Chinese teacher for 3 months. She taught at a Chinese school in Edmonton, Alberta. Experienced in teaching language and class management.

Grade 7

 

Graduated from Northwest China Normal University, taught in a secondary vocational school for 8 years, taught Chinese for years with Ray Chinese School in Chicago and Standard Chinese School in Toronto, and is one of the founding teachers of Standard Chinese School. Accumulated rich experiences in teaching Chinese overseas and establishing Chinese school overseas, also attended conferences on overseas Chinese language teaching. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School.

The Advanced Chinese Class

 

She graduated from Wuhan University, and had chaired the advisory work of children's education for years at the most famous childcare website in China. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School. She said, “Education is to let children have a pair of eyes to discover the beauty of the world. Education of Chinese is to let children realize the rhythmic beauty of the Chinese language, the graphic beauty of the Chinese characters, the profound beauty of the Chinese history, and the spacious beauty of Chinese sceneries.” 

 Secondary Credit Chinese Language teacher 2

After completing B.A., worked with a high school as a teacher and Educational Research Group leader for 10 years. Also received training at Beijing Normal University as one of the key teachers. Certified Chinese Putonghua (a.k.a. Mandarin) teacher.  

 Secondary Credit Chinese Language teacher 3

Obtained B. A. in Chinese Language and Literature from Peking University, one of the most famous universities in China. Had been a teacher to teach Chinese language course at Affiliated High School of Peking University for years. Also had taught Chinese Language to foreign visiting students for CIEE Council on International Educational Exchange and for Affiliated High School of Peking University. She is one of the founders of Grand River Chinese School.

 Olympic Math Class 1

Hello! My name is Will Ma and I am currently a 3rd year student in the University of Waterloo Math Faculty. I am one of the coaches for the City of Waterloo MCTIC Math Team and the Canadian ARML Math Team. I was also the co-founder of Math Club at my high school, and I've taught Olympic Math at the University for eager high school students. I hope I can make you enjoy it as much as I have throughout my life.

Olympic Math Class 2

Hey, I am Amlesh Jayakumar, a grade 12 high school student at Waterloo Collegiate Institute. I currently lead both the math and computer science clubs where I teach advanced concepts and techniques that are essential for succeeding at contests. I have tutored students in math for over 5 years and really enjoy sharing my appreciation and passion for mathematics with others. Some of my contest achievements include qualifying for the CMO (Canadian Mathematical Olympiad), POPTOR (Physics Olympiad Preparation Camp), and to various other computer science contests (ranking at both a provincial and national level alike).

Fine Arts Class 1

Graduated from Yunnan University of Arts with major in Art Education. Was employed by Computer Network Information Center, Academy of Science of China, responsible for science education website design and planning, part time instructor for Children's Summer science education program. Performed art training to Children from 4 years old to 10 years old in Canada. Good at art training using comprehensive materials and encouraging children's imagination.

Fine Arts Class 2

Graduated from Northeast Normal University of China with B.A. in Art Design, won jewelry designer certificate from Wuhan University of Geosciences, has been an internship teacher with art colleges, and has been worked in Beijing in fashion design industry for years. Proficient in a variety of cartoons, comics, portraits, and computer graphic design and 3D animation.

Traditional Chinese Music Instrument Class

Graduated from Faculty of Performing Arts, Inner Mongolia University, as well as Chinese Department of Inner Mongolia Normal University, was a teacher with Inner Mongolia Normal University, teaching Chinese Language, Music Theory, etc. Now a player of Erhu, a Chinese traditional music instrument, with KW Chinese Orchestra.

 Chinese Folk Dance Class guest teacher

Helen Hong is a dancer/choreographer. She started her dance training at age 4. Trained in dance by Beijing Dance Academy, China’s premier national dance institute, and served as an instructor / choreographer at the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts where she won several awards at national dance competitions. She had distinguished professional dance career in China. To preserve and promote Chinese performing arts and culture in a newly emerging and changing Canadian culture, Helen founded a professional studio of Chinese dance that offers Chinese folk and classical dance classes in London.

Principal

Hang Liu, B.A., M.Ed., completed formal teacher’s training from a Normal University in China, and obtained Master of Education in Canada. She taught for years in Shandong University and Beijing Jianshe University, also taught for 11 years in Ottawa Xinhua Chinese School, including teaching Chinese to a class of Anglophone / Francophone Canadians. She was one of the 7 founders of Beijing Jianshe University, established the Kanata campus of Ottawa Xinhua Chinese School and was the Executive Principal of the campus. She had been working for years in schools in Ottawa and Waterloo regions as Multicultural Liaison Officer / Settlement Worker in Schools, and had served thousands of students, parents and teachers.
