To meet the continuously increasing demand for our high quality Chinese language program, Grand River Chinese School need additional excellent teachers to join the team, including regular teachers and supply teachers. If you have the passion of Chinese language and culture education, and are willing to contribute to the community, we sincerely welcome your application to the teacher's positions. Candidates with teaching experiences, trained from normal universities, teacher's colleges or early year education schools, graduates in the disciplines of Chinese or other languages and/or education, and/or certified teachers of Ontario will be considered with priority.
Grand River Chinese School offers Chinese language courses from 3-year-old to grade 12 using Standard Chinese Putonghua (a.k.a. Mandarin) and simplified Chinese characters. The programs of JK through grade 12 are a part of the international language programs of St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres of Waterloo Catholic District School Board and funded by the Ministry of Education. The hiring process of Chinese language teachers will be carried out by the St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres. The detailed job description is as follows:
Hours: Saturday mornings, from 9:30 am till 12:00 pm or 9:30 am till 12:30 pm
Typical work activities include:
• Delivering lessons based on students’ interests and language skills to a multilevel class;
• Providing constant supervision of students (before class, during class and after class while they are waiting to be picked up) to ensure their safety and well-being;
• Providing each student with feedback that builds on his or her strengths;
• Promoting positive attitudes towards, and encouraging enthusiasm for language learning;
• Using a variety of instructional strategies, including small-group, individual, whole class, and co-operative learning experiences;
• Using Chinese as the language of instruction and communication whenever possible
• Arriving at the school at least fifteen minutes before the session is to begin
• Beginning lessons promptly regardless of the number of students in the class;
• Keeping accurate attendance records;
Basic Requirements:
• Passionate about teaching children
• Passionate about teaching Chinese language
• Teaching credentials either from the country of your origin or acquired in Canada
• Experience in teaching languages and working with children
• Fluent in oral and written in standard Chinese Putonghua (a.k.a. Mandarin) and simplified Chinese characters
